Pasar Senen Vendors Selling on Roadsides

Pasar Senen Blok III clothes vendors, whose kiosks burned in the fire happened in Friday (4/25), start to trade again in the west side of the burned building, exactly on Jalan Raya Senen towards Salemba, starting from Pasar Senen Blok IV Bridge until Senen intersection.

Trading inside the market is surely nicer. If I trade like this, I do not have definite income. The bottom line is that I do this because I need income

As for vegetables, fish, meat, and furniture vendors, who previously traded in Blok III basement, are selling in the east side of the burned building, exactly on Jalan Raya Pasar Senen towards Jalan Garuda, Kemayoran, starting from Kramat Bunder intersection until around Senen Sector Police station and Senen Terminal.

Jokowi: Senen Market Renovation will Be Started Immediately

Based on beritajakarta.com observations, traffic from Cempaka Putih towards Kemayoran is blocked by the vendors. Thus, vehicles can only pass from Kemayoran towards Cempaka Putih or Matraman. On this lane, the traffic is quite dense because the visitors park their vehicles on roadsides.

Lasmaida (47), one of the vendors selling on Jalan Raya Senen, Central Jakarta, admitted that she had to sell on roadside because she has no choice. “Trading inside the market is surely nicer. If I trade like this, I do not have definite income. The bottom line is that I do this because I need income,” she expressed, Tuesday (4/29).

Lasmaida hopes Jakarta Provincial Government, through PD Pasar Jaya, to immediately build temporary shelter in Blok V and rebuild the burned Pasar Senen Blok III building. “I hope the temporary shelter could be realized as soon as possible,” she hoped.

Similar expression is also conveyed by Ratih (29), a vegetables vendor who sets stall on Jalan Raya Pasar Senen. She admitted that selling on roadside is disturbing road users. However, she had to do it due to the absence of temporary shelter after her kiosk burned down.

Meanwhile, PD Pasar Jaya PR, Agus Lamun, stated that his party allows the vendors to set stalls around Pasar Senen Blok III building for a while until the temporary shelter in Blok V is finish being built. “This is an emergency situation. We’re currently preparing shelter in Blok V. In three months, it could already be operated,” he uttered.

According to Lamun, his party is also accelerating the construction of Pasar Senen Blok III building. It is planned that the 40-year-old building to be rebuilt from the beginning. “The vendors’ kiosks use period has expired. PD Pasar Jaya is indeed planning to rejuvenate Pasar Senen,” he said.
